TREATMENT FOR GUM DISEASE

03-01-04-2Gum disease occurs when there is a build up of plaque along the gum line and on the teeth. There are two stages of gum disease: gingivitis, which is the mild form and something that most of us will experience at some stage, and periodontitis, which is gum disease in its later and more extreme form. Periodontitis develops when the infected bacteria beneath the gums penetrate deeper and cause damage to the tissue and bone that supports the tooth. Fortunately, Dentistree can provide effective gum disease treatment to ensure your smile returns to its healthy, original state.

THE SYMPTOMS OF GUM DISEASE

The symptoms of gum disease typically increase in severity as the gingivitis progresses into periodontitis and the tissue that connects the gum to the roots of the tooth becomes damaged. Seeking treatment for gum disease can help to reverse these symptoms over time. In the meantime, however, you will likely experience:

  • Bleeding when brushing or flossing your teeth
  • Red, swollen and tender gums
  • Bad breath (halitosis)
  • The pulling away of the gum from the tooth – this is called ‘pocketing’
  • Pus in the pockets around the tooth.

If any of these symptoms are left ignored for too long without seeking gum disease treatment, the tissue can be destroyed. Left untreated, the bone holding the teeth in the jaw will eventually dissolve, loosening the teeth and eventually causing them to fall out.
