Orthodontics Dentists

Orthodontics involves the correction of irregularities in the teeth and jaw, such as crooked teeth or a misaligned bite. Orthodontics dentists fit braces (either fixed or removable) to the teeth in order to give patients a straighter smile and avoid the longer-term problems of tooth decay and gum disease that can be associated with an incorrect bite.

What is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics can be used to correct a range of issues, including:

  • Overbites, underbites, crossbites and open bites
  • A misplaced midline (where the centres of your upper and lower teeth do not line up)
  • Gaps or spaces between the teeth
  • Crowding of the teeth

Orthodontics dentists achieve this correction by fitting various fixed and removable appliances that place pressure on the teeth and jaws in order to move and re-train the necessary teeth and muscles. The most well-known of these appliances are of course the braces, which are fixed to the teeth in order to gradually move them into the desired position. Removable appliances include things like retainers and headgear.

Invisalign

As the name suggests, Invisalign is an almost invisible orthodontic treatment designed to correct bite and teeth alignment. Unlike conventional fixed braces, the aligners are clear enough to be practically unnoticeable, and they can be removed for eating, brushing and flossing. They are also worn for just 22 hours of the day.

Your dentist will need to conduct a dental examination to determine whether Invisalign is right for you before referring you to a suitable orthodontics dentist. Contact Dentistree today to learn more or make an appointment.
